Speiros 2017-02-27 13:45:27
gry I understand man, but when a man has a restriction in place, and DOES fix their attitude, is it not a decision between the admin/staff/ops and the individuals concerned? I agree not to encourage spammers, as I won't tolerate it either, or people who attack others..
amnet 2017-02-27 13:45:46
Speiros: Well, no.
amnet 2017-02-27 13:45:54
See, admins of every variety are lazy.
dax 2017-02-27 13:45:59
starrify: I do not recall this conversation, sorry
amnet 2017-02-27 13:46:11
In this instance, freenode likes to use expiring bans and quiets.
starrify 2017-02-27 13:46:13
k nvm
Speiros 2017-02-27 13:46:17
amnet I don't agree man. lol I was admin for a certain company, and I worked day and night man.
Speiros 2017-02-27 13:46:33
Mind you, I loved it too.
amnet 2017-02-27 13:46:39
So when a ban or quiet expires, there's no guarantee the user actually had any kind of agreement with the ops to behave.
gry 2017-02-27 13:46:44
Speiros: i think as this person was disruptive yesterday, and just got unquieted, watching them without engaging into a conversation is probably a good idea. following this good idea doesn't require staff permission
lambdafan 2017-02-27 13:47:09
hi, can I speak with a staff memer to get a cloak?
gry 2017-02-27 13:47:14
Speiros: after a while of watching, in this case you'll (alas) find that they're going back to where they were 20 mins ago
gry 2017-02-27 13:47:32
Speiros: with like 99% probability
Speiros 2017-02-27 13:47:47
amnet gry This is true, but to not speak to them, and "extend" their ban, I don't agree with on principle. I do on the other hand agree that as evidence becomes available that one hasn't changed something that needed fixing, then further restrictions need to be imposed.
amnet 2017-02-27 13:47:56
You also don't need permission to talk to them.
dax 2017-02-27 13:48:10
lambdafan: cloak done
gry 2017-02-27 13:48:15
Speiros: you're free to make your own judgment. I shared mine. it's not obligatory
lambdafan 2017-02-27 13:48:35
thanks dax :)
Speiros 2017-02-27 13:48:39
gry Appreciate the input, and I'm alert to new parameters.
Speiros 2017-02-27 13:48:49
amnet true too.
gry 2017-02-27 13:48:53
Speiros: it is particularly useful to make such judgments actively as there are times when this channel is unattended. so even if someone is not quieted, deciding to not talk with them may become useful
Speiros 2017-02-27 13:49:04
gry agreed.
amnet 2017-02-27 13:49:11
Speiros: Right, so gry is netiquetteing to the choir and you have experience seeing people behave.
Speiros 2017-02-27 13:49:43
gry I just didn't see it, whereas that guy pornpornpornporn, by default, automatically means "I am here to disrupt"
gry 2017-02-27 13:49:59
amnet: if you're saying that "gry agrees that everything gry said is garbage and that troll will behave now", I disagree. if not, please rephrase
gry 2017-02-27 13:50:12
Speiros: yes, thanks
gry 2017-02-27 13:50:32
Speiros: being able to judge when the nick doesn't speak for itself is also a wonderful thing to do
amnet 2017-02-27 13:50:38
gry: No. I'd rephrase but the message wasn't directed at you.
Antares 2017-02-27 13:52:27
gry, Hi
gry 2017-02-27 13:52:52
amnet: ok, thanks
_aEvl_ 2017-02-27 13:53:29
_god_, o you get pm
emerson 2017-02-27 13:53:44

Antares 2017-02-27 13:53:44
:(
gry 2017-02-27 13:53:51
Antares: hello?
gry 2017-02-27 13:53:55
Antares: can i help you?
Antares 2017-02-27 13:54:01
yes hello
Speiros 2017-02-27 13:54:19
gry That is true too man. Still, I can't uphold a restriction on a person who 1) I don't have authority to do such to, and 2) has, by the authorities, been given a temporary restriction. Still, knowing they were disruptive means I can be aware, and defend my room if required, and alerted to the perspective that the person may be disruptive, although I haven't personally seen it...which is important to know too.
_god_ 2017-02-27 13:54:54
_aEvl_, ?
amnet 2017-02-27 13:54:55
Speiros: Disagree on that last part.
Speiros 2017-02-27 13:54:57
In here, if a person is being rude, or other things, I will, and do (generally) choose to ignore them.
Speiros 2017-02-27 13:55:04
amnet fair enough.
amnet 2017-02-27 13:55:08
It's not important to know if someone's disrupting a channel that's unrelated.
amnet 2017-02-27 13:55:22
Someone can choose to be a dick in one place and jovial in another.
emerson 2017-02-27 13:55:23
hi. can we move on from this please
emerson 2017-02-27 13:55:30
it's going in circles
gry 2017-02-27 13:55:31
Speiros: you can stop talking with me if you don't like me. you have an authority to do so because the conversation takes away your time and is a part of your life
emerson 2017-02-27 13:55:39
or maybe spheres at this point
Speiros 2017-02-27 13:55:40
gry I do like you man.
LOS 2017-02-27 13:55:46

Speiros 2017-02-27 13:56:00

emerson: Spheres for sure.
LOS 2017-02-27 13:56:13

gry 2017-02-27 13:57:08

_aEvl_ 2017-02-27 13:57:43

_aEvl_ 2017-02-27 13:58:20

Anarcho 2017-02-27 14:07:57
hello, I joined my ban list with another channel
Anarcho 2017-02-27 14:08:00
because my list was full
Anarcho 2017-02-27 14:08:05
I'm not OP in that channel though, now that I returned to it
Anarcho 2017-02-27 14:08:16
how can I OP in it or register a new channel for bans?
amnet 2017-02-27 14:08:44
Channels are created by /join, registered by ChanServ.
Speiros 2017-02-27 14:09:23
Anarcho When you say you're not op in it, does it mean that you signed out and went back in, or something else?
amnet 2017-02-27 14:11:14
Speiros: Please provide only a bare minimum of help to ban-happy Anarcho-*ists.
Speiros 2017-02-27 14:11:39
amnet I don't get it.
dax 2017-02-27 14:12:17
Anarcho: /msg chanserv op ##channelnamehere
amnet 2017-02-27 14:12:29
It's not an oxymoron, but it's pretty damn close if you think about it.
Speiros 2017-02-27 14:17:38
gry So I found a use for the TAXONOMY flag
Speiros 2017-02-27 14:18:12
gry As it was meta for people to find out info about the room, I added subject matter, and highlighted the majority of the rules.
gry 2017-02-27 14:18:53
putting rules into taxonomy is kind of useful for users without a web browser
Speiros 2017-02-27 14:19:11
gry The other guidelines, which are general, are on that link you gave me. It works well.
amnet 2017-02-27 14:19:54
gry: Those used to be called users.
Anarcho 2017-02-27 14:20:02
thanks @dax
Anarcho 2017-02-27 14:20:04
and all
gry 2017-02-27 14:20:43
amnet: you're hard to understand; you may want to adjust your writing style to be more direct and less metaphorical so that it is understood
amnet 2017-02-27 14:21:13
Eh, I'm literal enough as it is.
gry 2017-02-27 14:21:20
amnet: so far I can only guess "the people without a web browser are not even proper users" and I am not at all sure if that's the desired meaning or not; if it was, it would be a bit irrelevant
amnet 2017-02-27 14:22:13
It's more than pandering to IRC users means giving them the information they need without forcing them to switch protocols.
gry 2017-02-27 14:22:26
amnet: given that I had spent last two hours bashing someone who's asking for help but not very listening, being even more literal would be useful; I'm too tired to guess things already
amnet 2017-02-27 14:22:42
It's like browsing a website and getting dropping into an IRC terminal without your client sending an Upgrade header.
gry 2017-02-27 14:22:49
I don't know what "pandering" means
gry 2017-02-27 14:23:22
many people in this channel are a foreigner, and complex (read: 6yo level) vocabulary is confusing for them
amnet 2017-02-27 14:23:52
s/than/that
gry 2017-02-27 14:23:58
when I was 18 and studied for a ESL test for a uni, a vocabulary site assessed my vocab as that of a UK 5yo
amnet 2017-02-27 14:24:10
Ouch.
gry 2017-02-27 14:24:14
primarily because I couldn't get emotion-related adjectives right
Speiros 2017-02-27 14:24:18
gry Where is your origin?
gry 2017-02-27 14:24:25
I could do lots of academic level things, but I didn't know what "grumpy" stood for
amnet 2017-02-27 14:24:26
Ahhh.
duckgoose 2017-02-27 14:24:32
are you an aspie
gry 2017-02-27 14:24:37

duckgoose 2017-02-27 14:24:38

Speiros 2017-02-27 14:25:02
gry Nice.
Speiros 2017-02-27 14:26:16
I find some conversations are like sideband on a radio...
gry 2017-02-27 14:26:22
so "users" implied "users without a web browser" by default at some point in ancient history. that's OK. I get you. I head out now. thanks and have a nice day
amnet 2017-02-27 14:26:49
Aye. Cya.
weathercenter 2017-02-27 14:27:05
Hello Freenode Admin! Could someone please set me up with a kewl vhost/cloke?
Speiros 2017-02-27 14:27:22

Speiros 2017-02-27 14:27:28
