Fuchs 2017-02-24 08:46:12
koalalorenzo: yeah, sending e-mails is the right way. If you tell me (query is fine) what channel it is, I can try to poke someone of our groups registration team
blackhole_ 2017-02-24 08:51:00
Can someone help me on getting an unaffiliated cloak here?
Fuchs 2017-02-24 08:51:20
blackhole_: technically yes, but that won't work while you use gateways such as webchat
Fuchs 2017-02-24 08:51:41
blackhole_: so maybe check if you wouldn't already have one if connecting directly
blackhole_ 2017-02-24 08:51:55
Fuchs: Ahh, why is that? because they over ride it?
Fuchs 2017-02-24 08:52:11
blackhole_: yeah, project cloak > gateway cloak > unaffiliated cloak
Fuchs 2017-02-24 08:52:12
basically
blackhole_ 2017-02-24 08:52:19
I see, thanks.
Fuchs 2017-02-24 08:52:23
you're welcome :)

yes, hi
Fuchs 2017-02-24 08:59:44
how can we help?
TheUnhandled 2017-02-24 09:00:04
I will PM - its embarrasing
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:00:11
sure, go ahead :)
paulr 2017-02-24 09:07:42
Fuchs: do you do the equiv of quakenet 'trusts' on hosts here?
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:07:58
I'm afraid I am not familiar with quakenet trusts
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:08:08
can you give a short summary of what it is and does?
paulr 2017-02-24 09:08:13
>x clones from an ip
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:08:52
paulr: you can have multiple connections per IP by default, if you hit limits, we have ilines
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:09:07
we don't tend to do these unless limits are actually hit (e.g. at a conference, hackaton, university or whatnot)
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:09:37
and before you ask: the actual number of connections per IP are not public and depend on various factors, but for most people they are more than sufficient
Zppix 2017-02-24 09:09:52
Fuchs: don't affliated cloaks have a different limit set
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:10:17
short: no (because affiliated cloaks are services, limits are ircd)
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:10:42
there are other things that have an impact, e.g. having an identd running. But again: for most people this is not needed at all
Siju 2017-02-24 09:11:10
default without identd is 20?
Zppix 2017-02-24 09:11:29
intend?
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:12:16
[21:08:55] <Fuchs> and before you ask: the actual number of connections per IP are not public and depend on various factors, but for most people they are more than sufficient
paulr 2017-02-24 09:12:18
Fuchs: people runnign 2 monitoring bots from a host seemed to think they were hitting a limit
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:12:24
paulr: that would surprise me. A lot.
paulr 2017-02-24 09:12:28
Fuchs: i'm guessing something else might have been going on
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:12:35
paulr: they can contact me with the error message they are getting
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:13:10
(well, they can contact any of us, doesn't have to be me :p)
paulr 2017-02-24 09:13:36
i'm guessing what's more likely happened is the 2 bots' got dc'd, both tried to conenct and hit the connect throttle that likely exists
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:13:48
if they are actually hitting connection limits, they can send us an e-mail to set up an iline, but unless there are other hosts on that connection, sounds more like something else (e.g. maybe a k-line for other reasons)
paulr 2017-02-24 09:13:52
I *assume* that ssl connections and non-ssl connections are treated same in terms of limits/illines etc
paulr 2017-02-24 09:14:23
I'd have thought the "trying to connect too fast" throttle that likely exists
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:14:46
that'd surprise me along. But they should definitely get a decent error message on connect
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:14:53
we can then act based on that (and the IP affected)
Zppix 2017-02-24 09:14:58
paulr: no because things like tools-labs have many bots that could connect at the same time
paulr 2017-02-24 09:15:51
Zppix: *nod* - I used to do some ircd/irc service development - only factor I don't really know is how freenode treat ssl links ;)
paulr 2017-02-24 09:16:14
and from the answer so far I think I know
paulr 2017-02-24 09:16:26
thanks both ;p
Zppix 2017-02-24 09:16:31
paulr: ssl is only supported by port 6097
Zppix 2017-02-24 09:16:36
6897*
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:16:46
I wouldn't even know by heart, but as per the above, we tend to not communicate limits. However, it is really unlikely that they hit them unless that connection is shared with other stuff, so best is they just contact us with whatever message they are getting
thumbs 2017-02-24 09:16:47
wrong on both counts.
thumbs 2017-02-24 09:16:54
Zppix: freenode offers access to IRC on the following ports: 6667, 6665, 6666, 8000, 8001, 8002. SSL access is available on 6697, 7000 and 7070.
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:17:00
if they can't connect at all, they can send us an e-mail to support at freenode dot net
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:17:04
then we will gladly answer there :)
Keytap 2017-02-24 09:17:58
Hey quick question. When do I know 100% for sure that I can join channels, message users, etc... after connecting? When I receive the MODE command?
Zppix 2017-02-24 09:18:28
thumbs: thats what i meant geez
Keytap 2017-02-24 09:18:38

vrsche1 2017-02-24 09:34:28
thank you my friends
CaptainShell 2017-02-24 09:34:53
Is reverse DNS working for 92.222.41.125? It should be bitcoinshell.mooo.com. I had to connect with irssi -h bitcoinshell.mooo.com
CaptainShell 2017-02-24 09:34:59
ELse I'm k-lined
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:35:14
CaptainShell: one of these was k-lined earlier and I fixed it, let me check
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:35:27
CaptainShell: retry.
CaptainShell 2017-02-24 09:35:54
It's working now with the -h flag on irssi. I'm not really sure what -h even does though.
CaptainShell 2017-02-24 09:36:04
That's how I was able to connect
CaptainShell 2017-02-24 09:36:37
Does it simply specify what IP address to use or does it actually tell the IRC server about a specific host name to identify as?
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:36:47
CaptainShell: I wouldn't know by heart either, but I do know that this service was klined until a bit ago, when I fixed it
CaptainShell 2017-02-24 09:37:39
ok thanks
CaptainShell 2017-02-24 09:38:21
All users should have identd
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:38:28
yeah, that one was a bit unfortunate and would have hit them regardless
Lisbelk 2017-02-24 09:39:25
anyuleski,
CaptainShell 2017-02-24 09:40:08
Is there something special about the channel #ChaperTwo? I joined and then instant k-line. Somebody else pasted their k-line experience joining that channel maybe it's a trick and it's an instant k-line channel
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:40:18
*sigh*
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:40:39
a very good idea would be to _not_ write out such channel names in public channels. Even though we did fix that one: do _not_ do that in the future
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:40:44
yes, it was a k-line channel, we have these
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:40:59
and the most stupid thing you can do is spread them, because that is basically what happened before a ton of people joined that one today.
anyuleski 2017-02-24 09:41:11
bitch
CaptainShell 2017-02-24 09:41:27
Well at least I told people about it in proper context
Fuchs 2017-02-24 09:41:46
CaptainShell: just don't place them in public, people will join regardless. Thanks.
CaptainShell 2017-02-24 09:41:52
ok
