I use a bouncer for this. it caches messages that aren't delivered while my client has connectivity issues to my bouncer and makes me appear more stable to the network

jerit: well, with a bouncer, you'd still appear online to the IRC network. the key for me was tuning the config for how it buffers messages. in one, I've got it set to track my last message. on another, just the last message that ZNC sends to my client.
