...need to test my ignore...anyone willing to help?
entuland 2017-03-04 07:20:12
sure, so that I learn how to do that myself
entuland 2017-03-04 07:20:23
go ahead
entuland 2017-03-04 07:20:48
elec64 ^
entuland 2017-03-04 07:20:55
how does that works?
elec64 2017-03-04 07:20:57
entuland: ok, say something to me
elec64 2017-03-04 07:21:33
entuland: say somethign to me
Skizzerz 2017-03-04 07:21:34
you /ignore nick, and then anything that nick says won't show up for you. Some clients let you further customize it (such as ignoring only pms, or ignoring only channel messages, etc.)
entuland 2017-03-04 07:21:51
elec64, can you read this message?
elec64 2017-03-04 07:21:59
entuland: yup that last one I can read
entuland 2017-03-04 07:22:09
I sent only one message
entuland 2017-03-04 07:22:17
you were too fast removing it I suppose
elec64 2017-03-04 07:22:19
entuland: I ignored you before, if you said something then my ignore worked
Skizzerz 2017-03-04 07:22:25
they did not
elec64 2017-03-04 07:22:43
entuland: say something to me
entuland 2017-03-04 07:22:50
elec64, message one
entuland 2017-03-04 07:22:53
elec64, message two
elec64 2017-03-04 07:22:55
entuland: nope
entuland 2017-03-04 07:22:57
elec64, message trhee
AbstractLion 2017-03-04 07:22:58
elec64: Life is a possibility
elec64 2017-03-04 07:22:59
hmm
Skizzerz 2017-03-04 07:23:06
elec64: still showing up?
elec64 2017-03-04 07:23:12
Skizzerz: yeah
Skizzerz 2017-03-04 07:23:18
what client are you using?
elec64 2017-03-04 07:23:28
Skizzerz: KVIrc, 4.9.2
Skizzerz 2017-03-04 07:23:32
you seem to be blocking ctcp replies :)
Skizzerz 2017-03-04 07:23:46
(which is fine, I block them too, but makes getting info a bit more of a chore)
elec64 2017-03-04 07:23:50
5.0.1-beta has the same issue
elec64 2017-03-04 07:24:26
welp, I guess that means there's bugs here still
elec64 2017-03-04 07:24:28
thanks entuland
Skizzerz 2017-03-04 07:25:26
I'm looking through the kvirc command list, I don't even see an /ignore command listed
elec64 2017-03-04 07:25:40
Skizzerz: ah, its not endemic to irc?
elec64 2017-03-04 07:25:45
i.e. its per client?
Skizzerz 2017-03-04 07:25:47
no, it's a per-client thing
Skizzerz 2017-03-04 07:25:57
the server still sends you the messages, the client just chooses to not display them for you
elec64 2017-03-04 07:26:17
Skizzerz: is there a way to tell the server not to send you certain messages instead?
Skizzerz 2017-03-04 07:26:27
nope
Skizzerz 2017-03-04 07:26:33
well, /part :P
elec64 2017-03-04 07:26:37
ha
Skizzerz 2017-03-04 07:27:07
and there are user modes that can block pms (either all pms, or just from unidentified users)
entuland 2017-03-04 07:27:16
you're welcome elec64
Skizzerz 2017-03-04 07:27:20
if you get a lot of pm spam, setting the latter is probably a good idea
elec64 2017-03-04 07:27:39
Skizzerz: nah, I don't get a lot of it
Skizzerz 2017-03-04 07:27:46
aha
Skizzerz 2017-03-04 07:27:48
I figured it out
elec64 2017-03-04 07:27:51
?
Skizzerz 2017-03-04 07:27:53
kvirc makes it complicated
Skizzerz 2017-03-04 07:28:19
you have to "register" the user in kvirc before you can ignore them
elec64 2017-03-04 07:28:25
...
elec64 2017-03-04 07:28:29
what
Skizzerz 2017-03-04 07:28:31
http://www.kvirc.net/doc/doc_registered_users.html
Noavi 2017-03-04 07:28:49
yoyooyoyoy
elec64 2017-03-04 07:28:55
that is... stupid
Skizzerz 2017-03-04 07:28:58
quite
Noavi 2017-03-04 07:28:59
what is
amnet 2017-03-04 07:29:20
elec64: Users can evade ignores.
elec64 2017-03-04 07:30:23
amnet: well, the same way I can evade being targeted, just register a different user at a different ip...
elec64 2017-03-04 07:30:48
its not really security so much as convenience
amnet 2017-03-04 07:31:06
Exactly. Kvirc follows the same pattern as ordinary IRC in that regard.
elec64 2017-03-04 07:31:28
...except that its not convienient to explicitly register AND ignore a user
amnet 2017-03-04 07:31:32
User transparency isn't a given, so registering is the go-to solution for any identity-based task on modern IRC.
amnet 2017-03-04 07:33:01
Does it at least let you register multiple hostmasks to a user?
elec64 2017-03-04 07:33:19
amnet: not sure
elec64 2017-03-04 07:33:34
I can sort of see why it has to be client side and not server side at least, otherwise you could experience DOS per user...
amnet 2017-03-04 07:33:50
That's not a problem.
amnet 2017-03-04 07:33:59
Just put a limit on the number of ignores.
elec64 2017-03-04 07:34:19
amnet: I think it would have to be very low on the server
elec64 2017-03-04 07:35:00
if you're in a help channel and there are maybe 2 people you need to interact with (because they have your answer) and malicious party X decides to tell the server to ignore them for you...
amnet 2017-03-04 07:35:08
Well, since it'd only happen when someone sends a message to you, the server could opt to delay the message until it has enough free time to process your entire ignore list. :D
elec64 2017-03-04 07:35:20
unless your server limit is 5 people then it'd be easy to DOS someone
amnet 2017-03-04 07:37:12
These logistics are the reason freenode has umodes that let you ignore unregistered users.
AbstractLion 2017-03-04 07:38:03
Who can i talk to about an unlegitimate kickban?
amnet 2017-03-04 07:38:26
Moving registration to the Service level prevents malicious users from uploading crooked "identity files" for ignoring.
AbstractLion 2017-03-04 07:38:50
Yeah im trying to get registered tho
AbstractLion 2017-03-04 07:38:54
I aint do nothing wrong
amnet 2017-03-04 07:38:55
AbstractLion: A channel operator from the channel you were banned from.
AbstractLion 2017-03-04 07:39:07
Yeah yeah i agree with all that
AbstractLion 2017-03-04 07:39:17
Point me in the right direction atleast
AbstractLion 2017-03-04 07:39:40
