Merlina 2017-03-05 06:45:51
thanks
s00p 2017-03-05 06:46:36
genec: Oh cool, it worked. Thanks genec! :)
genec 2017-03-05 06:47:05
s00p: yw. :D
duckgoose 2017-03-05 06:47:26
in other words
amberd 2017-03-05 06:47:31
Okay so, newbie question again. I believe I have registered with freenode--in a separate tab, when I do whois on my nickname it says I am registered. But when I try to join the python group, I am dumped into the unregistered group.
genec 2017-03-05 06:47:32
just follow the recovery instructions in your email
duckgoose 2017-03-05 06:47:36
cloaks keep honest people from seeing your ip
duckgoose 2017-03-05 06:47:39
like a padlock
genec 2017-03-05 06:48:06
amberd: did you identify with nickserv?
s00p 2017-03-05 06:48:33
test...1234
genec 2017-03-05 06:48:35
amberd: because I don't see that you're registered nor identified on this nick
genec 2017-03-05 06:48:53
s00p: and now identified. :D
ragazor 2017-03-05 06:48:56
.seen enchi
amberd 2017-03-05 06:48:59
Ah...hmm... then I have yet another step to go. How do I do that? I just did the msg register thing.
amberd 2017-03-05 06:49:24
Oh wait...I think I see what do do
amberd 2017-03-05 06:49:30
One moment.
s00p 2017-03-05 06:50:28
genec: I don't want to bother people any more. Do you happen to have a link with all the information for the chatserver command and operations? Or some sort of manual?
genec 2017-03-05 06:51:50
s00p: like the IRC server help command? some clients allow "/quote help" to go to the server and you can then see server commands. ChanServ, NickServ and alis are the three most common services. all respond to private messages and have a help command
s00p 2017-03-05 06:52:34
genec: Thanks.
genec 2017-03-05 06:52:42
s00p: other than that, the freenode website and generic IRC how-tos, you should be pretty well set
s00p 2017-03-05 06:52:43
genec: Much appreciated.
s00p 2017-03-05 06:53:39
Interesting, I just found out that wikipedia has a IRC tutorial: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:IRC/Tutorial
s00p 2017-03-05 06:54:09
Funny, I didn't think there were any tutorials at all on wikipedia.org
amberd 2017-03-05 07:03:21
@genec I thought I did what I needed to but am stuck. I did the register with password and email address. Is that supposed to send me an email?
genec 2017-03-05 07:03:46
amberd: yes.
genec 2017-03-05 07:04:05
amberd: check spam? waited 1-20 minutes (in case some spam filter is slow)?
genec 2017-03-05 07:05:08
amberd: what nick are you registering? "/msg NickServ info myAccountName" would show it's created but not verified yet
genec 2017-03-05 07:05:38
amberd: and I don't see that amberd is registered, even in the unverified stage
amberd 2017-03-05 07:05:41
I am trying to register this one.
amberd 2017-03-05 07:06:16
Is the first step msg NickServ REGISTER ?
genec 2017-03-05 07:06:17
amberd: "/query nickserv" should open a new tab/window to nickserv. in there, start with "help register".
amberd 2017-03-05 07:06:21
If so that's what I've done
genec 2017-03-05 07:07:13
amberd: not "msg NickServ" "/msg NickServ"
genec 2017-03-05 07:07:38
amberd: in most clients, typing '/' as the first character indicates a command
amberd 2017-03-05 07:07:45
Yes, I left the slash off here but realized I could have kept it here as this is a forum and it doesn't do anything.
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:07:59
It isn't a forum, this is an IRC channel.
amberd 2017-03-05 07:08:27
Ugh. Sorry. I am very new at this. Just trying to find a way to get some Python help and am showing my ignorance. Sorry.
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:08:37
No worries.
genec 2017-03-05 07:08:49
amberd: similar idea though. just mildly different terms for clarity
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:08:57
If you finish registering you'll be able to join #python :)
genec 2017-03-05 07:09:07
a publicly viewable space, none the less
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:09:24
Just run the commands genec told you, and make sure you provide a live e-mail address you have access to
amberd 2017-03-05 07:09:29
I will trying registering again in the nickserv window.
amberd 2017-03-05 07:09:38
It's a live address--promise. :)
genec 2017-03-05 07:10:06
amberd: and in that NickServ window, it should give you some results. like success or rejected.
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:13:16
hi, is there a way to disable that channel messages that appear "everywhere"
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:13:19
?
paven 2017-03-05 07:13:32
what client are you using?
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:13:40
communi /znc
mahakal 2017-03-05 07:13:46
This nick name is registere to me,but i installed my client again ,and i have forgotten the password
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:13:48
alexandre9099: http://wiki.xkcd.com/irc/Hide_join_part_messages
mahakal 2017-03-05 07:13:58
How can i recover it again ?
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:14:17
mahakal: /msg nickserv held sendpass
genec 2017-03-05 07:14:22
mahakal: /msg NickServ help sendpass
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:14:22
Joseph: not what i want
genec 2017-03-05 07:14:49
Joseph: s/d/p/ :D
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:14:58
alexandre9099: ok. can you be more specific then?
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:15:05
Joseph: for example on hashcat channel
genec 2017-03-05 07:15:15
amberd: you should see a message like "An email containing nickname activation instructions has been sent to $email"
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:15:15
when you join it sends a message
genec 2017-03-05 07:15:37
alexandre9099: you mean hiding the entrymsg??
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:15:42
alexandre9099: oh, you mean the entry message of a channel? you'd need to see if your client can block that, i'm not sure that's a common requested feature
amberd 2017-03-05 07:16:02
Yes! Strange--is it possible the server was just slow? When I sent the command a second time, it said a message had already been sent and I just barely received the email and completed the process. I believe I am now verified.
genec 2017-03-05 07:16:05
alexandre9099: I don't see an entrymsg on ChanServ for that channel
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:16:14
yea, i think it is that :/ it is a little bit borring because i have a lot of channels
genec 2017-03-05 07:16:31
amberd: yes, you're registered and identified
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:16:37
that message comes from hascate, not ChanServ
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:16:41
i think
genec 2017-03-05 07:17:03
alexandre9099: 1m just so I understand what you see...
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:17:35
alexandre9099: I see what you mean now. i don't know what you could do other than ignoring hashcate
genec 2017-03-05 07:17:36
alexandre9099: ahh, it appears hashcate is probably the helper bot for hashcat...
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:17:47
alexandre9099: it seems to be some official bot in the channel
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:17:58
yea, and i want to disable that messages
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:18:14
if i am for example on php channel i get messages from hashcat one
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:18:20
alexandre9099: you can ignore hashcate and make it stop showing on your client, but that bot is controlled by somebody else
genec 2017-03-05 07:18:22
alexandre9099: many clients have a /ignore command
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:18:27
so you can't *totally* disable it
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:18:45
well, so i need to ignore every bot of every channel that have one?
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:19:04
alexandre9099: most channels i frequent don't greet users on join with a notice
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:19:14
alexandre9099: so it isn't a very common occurrence in my experience
genec 2017-03-05 07:19:17
alexandre9099: or ignore all PMs from those you haven't explicitly allowed
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:19:59
:/ for example godotengine channel have a bot that sends every commit on git i think, but it shows on all channels i'm in
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:20:11
i'll just set it to be ignored :/
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:20:22
alexandre9099: that's the kind of thing you need to maybe address channel bot controllers/ops about
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:20:25
but there must be a way to disable this "global messages"
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:20:31
if you're annoyed by it, maybe others are, too
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:20:42
yea, i might ask them about it
genec 2017-03-05 07:20:49
alexandre9099: odd. is that a /notice perhaps that's showing in the active window or is the same message replicated by your client in EVERY channel?
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:21:13
no, it is just on the channel /window i have openned
genec 2017-03-05 07:21:33
alexandre9099: smells like a misdirected notice that your client is messing up
genec 2017-03-05 07:21:52
alexandre9099: if you're willing to test, I think I can demonstrate
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:22:05
alexandre9099: what do you mean on all channels you're in?
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:22:11
how?
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:22:21
Joseph: on the channel i have active
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:22:40
alexandre9099: oh, the active window. you can see if your client can dump it in the status window or tab
genec 2017-03-05 07:22:43
alexandre9099: simple. change focus to another channel and I'll send you a notice. I had this issue with XChat before switching to HexChat
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:22:45
and not bother you
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:22:58
ok, wait 5 seconds and i'll switch
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:23:15
alexandre9099: clients like HexChat have this annoying feature on by default where for example ChanServ notices are sent to some random channel you share ChanServ with
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:23:24
and you can change that behavior
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:23:27
i suspect this is the same issue
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:23:29
yea, i got it on gnupg(where it was active)
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:23:45
Joseph: i'll check
genec 2017-03-05 07:24:01
alexandre9099: did you see "greetings via /notice"? that's a client-side thing as Joseph said
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:24:12
but i think it is a feature, not a bug, because notices should have priority, i think
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:24:18
genec: yes
genec 2017-03-05 07:24:30
alexandre9099: what client are you using?
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:24:43
communi (with znc bouncer)
steph__ 2017-03-05 07:24:47

ha3mak 2017-03-05 07:24:50
hi
genec 2017-03-05 07:24:53
tbh, I'd rather let a notice go to the right channel and act like a callout
steph__ 2017-03-05 07:25:15
3.5
steph__ 2017-03-05 07:25:17
?
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:25:22
i make all go to the status tab because otherwise my channel logs are cluttered with notices
ha3mak 2017-03-05 07:25:35
I have just registered my user with the nickserv but I didn't get the confirmation e-mail. Who can help me?
genec 2017-03-05 07:25:40
alexandre9099: not sure on communi. either look at tuning the client, using a script to move/manipulate the message or something with ZNC to transform /notice to a normal message
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:26:00
yea, for example if i lose connection it just spams the window i am on with notices :D
genec 2017-03-05 07:26:04
Joseph: I put channel notices in the channel window and user notices in a user window
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:26:13
ha3mak: you can wait a while, if it still doesn't show up, stay signed in as you are, drop the nickname (/ns help drop) and reregister
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:26:31
genec: ah
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:26:32
i'll check if it is possible to do with znc
alexandre9099 2017-03-05 07:26:36
thanks guys :)
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:26:39
sure
ha3mak 2017-03-05 07:26:51
Joseph, thanks. In fact this is my second registration because I don't get the e-mails :\
genec 2017-03-05 07:26:59
ha3mak: someone else just had a bit of a delay with their registration email. I'd suggest waiting about 20 minutes, check the spam folder then if it's not there, check back
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:27:12
ha3mak: make sure you check your junk mail folder and that you didn't typo the e-mail
ha3mak 2017-03-05 07:28:09
I checkd for typo and I even checkd the mail.log of the SMTP server also.. There's no mail in junk folder or in any other possible folders
genec 2017-03-05 07:28:13
ha3mak: if those fail, you'll need to check with staff (unless you want to do the superficial check of which email provider you're using)
ha3mak 2017-03-05 07:28:52
genec, I will wait for more 20 minutes and then trying to contact with the staff again
ha3mak 2017-03-05 07:28:54
thanks
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:29:00
ha3mak: good idea
genec 2017-03-05 07:29:12
ha3mak: a mail domain you operate? that hopefully would work unless you're on a blacklist or forgot to setup some obvious part of DNS records
ha3mak 2017-03-05 07:30:03
genec: yes, i'm the operator of the mail server. There's no missing records or any known issues
ha3mak 2017-03-05 07:30:15
all of the e-mails were delivered at this point
genec 2017-03-05 07:30:31
ha3mak: checked some blacklist search site like perhaps http://www.anti-abuse.org/multi-rbl-check/ ?
ha3mak 2017-03-05 07:31:20
I'm (the monitoring) checking it periodically and everything is ok
ha3mak 2017-03-05 07:31:28
I'm checking with mxtoolbox.com
genec 2017-03-05 07:31:40
ha3mak: baring all that (including the wait), it sounds like you'll have to wait for a staff member who can check the email.
turing 2017-03-05 07:31:44
Any chance I could get a staffer to released this nick so I can group it, please?
ha3mak 2017-03-05 07:32:13
genec, I'will do that
turing 2017-03-05 07:32:46
it hasn't been used in over a year according to nickserv.
genec 2017-03-05 07:32:58
turing: haven't seen any say anything in here but doesn't mean they're not lurking somewhere. casual checks say it can be dropped
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:33:32
1 year 21 weeks, Hold flag is not applied, so yeah
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:33:35
probably can be droppd
Joseph 2017-03-05 07:33:37
dropped
turing 2017-03-05 07:33:39
genec: someone will be around eventually. Just takes time sometimes.
genec 2017-03-05 07:34:06
turing: yep.
